This picture shows Graeme Souness and Alan Peacock presenting some artwork to Rolando Ugolini at the Middlesbrough Former Players Association dinner in April 2013. Sadly, just a year later, Rolando, who was born in Lucca, Italy and moved to Scotland with his family at the age of three, passed away aged 89. At the time he was one of the oldest surviving former Middlesbrough players. Rolando signed for Glasgow Celtic shortly before the end of the Second World War but was restricted to just a handful of first team appearances because of the form of regular goalkeeper Willie Miller. He moved to Middlesbrough in 1948 where he made just short of 350 first team appearances and became a firm favourite at Ayresome Park. After being ousted by Brian Clough's future sidekick Peter Taylor, Rolando signed for Wrexham where he spent three seasons before joining Dundee United for a further two. Before retiring from the game altogether he turned out once for Berwick Rangers.

I am indebted to another former Middlesbrough goalkeeper, Jim Platt, for his kind permission to use the photograph.
